Renormalization Group Approach to Zero Temperature Bose Condensation

چکیده

We study the problem of Bose condensation at zero temperature and weak coupling for a three dimensional system of bosons, interacting with a repulsive short range potential, in the Bogoliubov approximation. We prove that the properties of the model can be explained in terms of an anomalous asymptotically free renormalization group ow and we show that the two-point correlation function has the typical superruid behaviour at long wavelengths, as generally expected. The proof is, for the moment, only at the level of perturbation theory in the running coupling constants. We also obtain an expression for the sound speed, whose leading term (when the coupling goes to zero) coincides with the sound speed in the exactly soluble Bogoliubov model.

Bose condensation in two dimensions with disorder: Gross-Pitaevskii approach

Bose condensation of interacting bosons in a two-dimensional random potential is studied. The Gross-Pitaevskii equation is solved to determine the spatially-varying order parameter and the localization length as a function of the disorder, the interaction strength, and the condensate density. A finite temperature of condensation is obtained thereby. The results are applied to determination of t...

Renormalization Effects in a Dilute Bose Gas

The low-density expansion for a homogeneous interacting Bose gas at zero temperature can be formulated as an expansion in powers of √ ρa, where ρ is the number density and a is the S-wave scattering length. Logarithms of ρa appear in the coefficients of the expansion. We show that these logarithms are determined by the renormalization properties of the effective field theory that describes the ...

Chapter 13 Bose Condensation: Reformulation

This problem will be studied at an heuristic level, i.e., in a way similar to the theory of the critical point in d = 4 ? " dimensions (see chapters 9 and 10). One should not forget that the latter problem, considered by many one of the major successes of the renormalization group approach, is still awaiting a rigorous formulation, not only for " = 1, but also for any " > 0. Therefore, we think...

Effect of Interactions on the Critical Temperature of a Dilute Bose Gas

Due to the observation of Bose-Einstein condensation in dilute atomic 87Rb and 23Na vapors last year, there is currently a great interest in the properties of a degenerate Bose gas. One aspect that is not yet understood is the effect of the interatomic interactions on the critical temperature of the phase transition. We present here a renormalization group study of the weakly-interacting Bose g...

We use a non-perturbative renormalization-group technique to study interacting bosons at zero temperature. Our approach reveals the instability of the Bogoliubov fixed point when d ≤ 3 and yields the exact infrared behavior in all dimensions d > 1 within a rather simple theoretical framework. It also enables to compute the low-energy properties in terms of the parameters of a microscopic model....
